Why c language is called only C but not D or E?

this question is on C programming language

Why c language is called only C but not D or E?
The development of this language is largely credited to the people at Bell Labs. Mr. R Thompson was the first to recognize the need to develop an application oriented operating system for the current hardware platform PDP-7. The language he developed was called 'B'. Rumor has it that it was named for his wife Bonnie, that this has never been verified. The next logical development from the 'B' language was a more universal, highly portable high level language. The application of this new operating system would come to be called Unix. So of couse the next version was 'C'.
Reply:hi dene, i think it is ken thomson but not "R thomson". pls verify. Report It

Reply:C language is called C because for example.Dennis Ritche first made a A language and then more advanced version B and then invent more advanced version C language and more advanced is C++ language Report It

Reply:The initial development of C occurred at AT%26amp;T Bell Labs between 1969 and 1973; according to Ritchie, the most creative period occurred in 1972. It was named "C" because many of its features were derived from an earlier language called "B." Accounts differ regarding the origins of the name "B": Ken Thompson credits it as being a stripped down version of the BCPL programming language, but he had also created a language called Bon in honor of his wife Bonnie.
Reply:compiller ?
Reply:Because previous version of the C language is Named as B. so the next letter of the B is c. So they named as C.
Reply:i just wanted to add, because everyone else had said that the previous language was B, but they didn't explain before that. one of the very first programming languages was A (for assembly language). the next one after that, which was a *higher-level language was B, just because they thought that was a good name for the next one after A. that same progression was made again when the C language came out...it was the next one in the set after A and B.

*if you're unfamiliar with the terms high-level and low-level, low-level is closer to the language that the computer "speaks", while higher-level is closer to English language
